The Deputy Master and Registrar of the Sierra Leone Judiciary has lodged a formal complaint against prominent legal practitioner Augustine Sorie Sengbe Marrah Esq., accusing him of serious professional misconduct aimed at bringing the legal profession into disrepute.
In a letter dated December 16, 2025, Lloyd Hindolo Jusu, the Deputy Master and Registrar, formally requested that the General Legal Council initiate an investigation into Marrah’s conduct.
The complaint cites a recent televised appearance during which Marrah allegedly used “insulting, derogatory, and wholly inappropriate language directed at members of the judiciary.” Jusu asserts that these statements were calculated to undermine public confidence in the judicial administration.
The complaint describes a “pattern of behavior” violating ethical standards, referencing two prior incidents to support the call for disciplinary action.
The letter alleges that on a previous occasion, Marrah was captured on video “climbing on top of the table of the Supreme Court” during a meeting. Additionally, the correspondence highlights that Marrah was convicted of Criminal Contempt by the Supreme Court on October 30, 2020.
“The fact that a member of the Bar has been convicted of criminal contempt serious disciplinary action must be taken against him to ensure the sanctity of the legal profession,” Jusu wrote.
In response to the filing, the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council issued a notice to Marrah on December 19, 2025. Signed by Committee Secretary Victor Idrissa Lansana Esq., the notice confirms receipt of the complaint and invokes the Legal Practitioners Act 2000.
The Disciplinary Committee has ordered Marrah to file an affidavit in answer to the allegations by December 29, 2025. He is required to submit copies of all defense documents to the Committee and serve the same to the complainant by that date. The Committee will then determine if a formal inquiry is necessary pursuant to Section 31(4) of the Act.
Video evidence of the alleged conduct has been submitted to the Council via memory sticks alongside the formal complaint.
