Mayor of Freetown City Council (FCC) Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr on Wednesday 21st February 2024 engaged the commissioner of the Monuments and Relics Commission Joseph Ben Kaifala.
The purpose of the engagement was to discuss FCC’s shared visions for preserving and protecting the city’s invaluable historical monuments.
According to the mayor, they engrossed in a productive discussion, taking into consideration specific monuments and sites that hold the stories and heritage of Freetown.
Aki-Sawyerr informed that they emphasized the urgent need and significance of safeguarding the historical assets across Freetown.
She concluded by reaffirming FCC’s commitment to partnering with the government counterparts, international organizations, and NGOs to hasten efforts in safeguarding Freetown cultural heritage.
Monuments and Relics are historic and tourist sites that show the historical image of the country and the commission was created to protect these sites.
