Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, has officially commissioned the newly constructed Infant Section Building at Tower Hill Municipal Primary School.

The project was funded by Dr. Stanella Beckley in honor of her late daughter, a former pupil of the school.

During the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Beckley expressed gratitude to the mayor and all contributors who played a role in making the project a reality. She acknowledged the immediate support she received from Mayor Aki-Sawyerr when she first proposed the initiative. Dr. Beckley encouraged former pupils of the school to actively participate in its development and pledged her continued support.

“I thank God for the financial means and strength to complete this project, and I will always be available to assist the school whenever necessary,” she stated.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr, in her remarks, emphasized the importance of collaboration in national development.

“Today is an example of what we need to continue seeing in our country’s development—love, partnership, and sacrifice,” the mayor stated.

She commended Dr. Beckley’s generosity, calling it a practical lesson in civic responsibility. “What Madam Beckley has done is a greater lesson than any civic education book. She has demonstrated what it means to care for others,” she added.

The Freetown City Council also contributed by constructing the school’s perimeter wall, further strengthening the institution’s infrastructure.

The commissioning ceremony concluded with the official opening of the facility, which includes two classrooms, a staff room, and a resource center. Attendees were later taken on a tour of the new building.

This development marks a significant step in improving educational infrastructure in Freetown, reinforcing community-driven initiatives in the city’s educational sector.
