The Board of Directors of the United States Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is convening today in Washington, D.C., to deliberate on and potentially approve the Proposed Compact Program with Sierra Leone.

This significant meeting marks a critical step in advancing the partnership between the MCC and Sierra Leone, which aims to bolster the country’s energy sector with substantial funding.

In December of last year, Sierra Leone was re-selected to proceed with the Compact Development process, underscoring the nation’s progress and commitment to meeting MCC’s rigorous standards. The anticipated program is set to provide approximately $450 million in funding from the U.S. government, targeting critical improvements in Sierra Leone’s energy infrastructure.

The MCC Compact is a five-year grant program designed to promote economic growth, reduce poverty, and strengthen institutions. For Sierra Leone, this funding represents a transformative opportunity to address longstanding challenges in the energy sector, which is crucial for economic development and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
