The Minister of Social Welfare, Melrose Karminty has on the 11th June 2024 participated in the opening ceremony of   the 17th session conference on the rights of Persons With Disabilities at the United Nations Hall in New York.

It is revealed that, the Minister is expected to deliver a national statement on the commitments of the government of Sierra Leone to promoting disability issues.

In accordance with the decisions made by the Conference of States Parties on June 15th, 2023, this session will include the election of nine members to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the United Nations and partner organizations will host a side event to raise awareness about the abilities of persons with disabilities, promote discussion on socio-economic empowerment programs, and explore funding opportunities to support such initiatives.
