The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has set aside the leadership team at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation and constituted an Interim Oversight Team led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Joe Nyuma.

According to a Press Release from the Ministry, the decision came following the recommendation of the Anti-Corruption Commission after their recent investigations and review of the institution’s operations.

The interim Oversight Team will oversee operations until the newly appointed Director General, Ms Josephine Kamara, secures parliamentary confirmation and assumes office. Minister Chernor Bah made these disclosures at a well-attended Town Hall with the general staff of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday, 13th February 2024, at the old studio complex in New England. The Minister thanked the staff of SLBC for their patience and understanding during the investigations and review period and urged them to set aside personal issues for the best interest of Sierra Leone.

He emphasized that the vision of President Julius Maada Bio is to transform the SLBC into a first-rate 21st-century national broadcaster and that he is determined to work with them all to make that happen. Minister Bah also informed the staff that with the expiration of the term of the Board of Directors, the Ministry has initiated the process of seeking nominations for a new board, as mandated by the SLBC Act.

The Minister assured them that His Excellency will appoint a new board to oversee the institution very soon. In their response and during the open exchange period, staff commended the Minister and his team for the thoughtful, fair conduct of the review process.

They applauded the move to set aside the senior management team for now and pledged to work with the interim leadership to pave the way for a successful tenure of the new Director General.
