Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, chaired an Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers on Thursday, October 9, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria.
The high-level session focused on critical regional matters, including the allocation of statutory positions among member states and the recruitment and status of staff from AES countries at Grade P4 and below.
In his opening remarks, Minister Kabba reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and regional solidarity. He conveyed appreciation from President Julius Maada Bio, Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, to all member states for their continued support, while also thanking the Government of Nigeria for hosting the session.
The Council addressed urgent regional challenges, including rising threats from terrorist groups such as JNIM, ISGS, and ISWAP, as well as the humanitarian crises triggered by displacement and climate-related shocks.
Minister Kabba highlighted President Bio’s recent diplomatic visits to AES member states, including Burkina Faso and Niger, which were aimed at promoting dialogue and restoring constitutional order in the region.
The meeting also reviewed proposals from the Ad-hoc Ministerial Committee on Statutory Positions, with closed-door deliberations expected to yield actionable solutions to strengthen regional stability and collective development.
