Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, has described the signing of the Global Coalition Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Special Olympics Sierra Leone as a major breakthrough in advancing inclusive youth development in Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at Siphire Court Hall in Brookfields, Freetown, Minister Sannoh emphasized the importance of creating equal opportunities for all young people, particularly persons with intellectual disabilities.
“This agreement marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to promote inclusion and empower every young Sierra Leonean to realise their full potential,” he said.
The ceremony brought together government officials, development partners, and other key stakeholders committed to expanding access to sports, skills development, and empowerment opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities.
According to organisers, the partnership is expected to strengthen capacity-building initiatives, promote social inclusion and acceptance, and increase participation in sporting activities across the country, particularly among marginalized and underserved groups.
Minister Sannoh reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting inclusive programmes and policies that enhance the welfare and development of young people. He noted that sports remain a powerful tool for fostering unity, empowerment, and national development.
The signing of the MoU is expected to enhance collaboration among stakeholders and create greater opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities to participate meaningfully in sports and community development initiatives.
