During the Ministry of Information and Civil Education’s weekly press conference, Minister Chernor Bah refuted claims that the Secretary to the President sabotaged the Kenya Law Society President’s attendance at the Lawyers Society AGM.

The Spokesperson of the Sierra Leone Lawyers’ Society, Claude Bahmee Davies, accused the Secretary to the President, Dr. Emmanuel Gaima, of threatening the Kenya Law Society President, Faith Odhiambo, regarding her safety and security in attending the Sierra Leone Lawyers’ Society’s first Annual General Meeting and Conference.

PRO Claude vehemently opposed the claim, stating, “On Monday, we were informed by Faith Odhiambo, our proposed Keynote Speaker for the AGM, that the Sierra Leone Ambassador to Kenya had approached her and said that, regarding the Secretary to the President, the Sierra Leone Government does not permit her to travel from Kenya to attend the AGM.”

During the press conference, Minister Chernor Bah refuted claims made by a “local group” alleging that the Government of Sierra Leone had blocked Faith Odhiambo, President of the Kenya Law Society, from attending the AGM due to security concerns. The High Commission categorically dismissed these claims as false and misleading.

Minister Bah further explained that Faith Odhiambo, in a statement, clarified that her inability to attend was due to “supervening circumstances” and that she would instead participate virtually. He reaffirmed that Sierra Leone is open to visitors and that the government does not interfere with individuals traveling to the country.
