Sierra Leone’s Minister of Youths Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura, emphasized the crucial role of peace in achieving sustainable development.

As the nation reflects on the challenges and tragedies of the January 6 incident that occurred 25 years ago, Minister Bangura extended a warm reminder to the youth, urging them to contribute to nation-building, promote peace, and uphold Sierra Leone’s core values.

Amidst the solemnity of the day, he cautioned against being led into harm’s way and emphasized the need to learn from the past, preventing a recurrence of the unfortunate events that unfolded in the country. Minister Bangura stressed that embracing peace is the only viable solution to propel Sierra Leone forward.

“On this solemn day of January 6, we remember the horrors that befell Freetown. Lives were lost, structures destroyed, and our country’s foundation shaken. Let’s remind the youth to never be pushed into harm’s way, but instead, let us collectively build our nation, foster peace, and uphold our core values,” he maintained.
