In an effort to revolutionize the healthcare system in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) has initiated a collaborative engagement with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Led by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), this joint effort aims to bring about significant positive changes in the country’s health sector.

The collaboration was formalized during a well-organized quarterly meeting, where representatives from both institutions came together to discuss and strategize the transformative healthcare efforts.

The primary goal of this partnership is to enhance the development of the health sector in Sierra Leone and improve the well-being of its citizens.

Several key areas of focus have been identified for action. The MOHS and WHO have mutually agreed to prioritize the finalization of the Essential Health Services Package (EHSP), the development of staffing norms, and the advancement of a national hospital strategy. Additionally, a National Surgical, Obstetric, and Anesthesia Plan (NSOAP) is in the works to ensure improved surgical and anesthesia services in the country.

With the recent reappointment of Minister Austin Demby, there is renewed optimism for the success of this transformational health campaign. Minister Demby is determined to ensure the effective implementation of these healthcare initiatives across the country, with progress being monitored and reported at each quarter.
