In a way to help boost the fishing sector, the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and its Partners has commenced three days Public Disclosure meeting on Environmental Social Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA) Studies and Engineering Feasibility Studies for the Construction of a Modern Fishing Harbour at Black Johnson.

It could be recalled that in mid-2022, Sierra Leone’s Government through the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources successfully secured a grant from the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the construction of an Ultra Modern Fishing Harbour at Black Johnson Community in the peninsula.

The meeting is mainly to explain to the residents of the Black Johnson Community the feasibility studies conducted by experts to ascertain whether it would have an environmental effect or not.

However, fish production and storage has been a minor challenge over the years as the country experience fish shortage most time.

It was disclosed that the Harbour will not only be serviced for fishing purposes but there will also be a garage that will maintain vessels.
