In a bid to address increasing concerns over vehicle thefts at the Youyi Building, the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning, under the leadership of Dr. Turad Senesie, has implemented a new vehicle pass system to enhance security within the premises.

This initiative aims to protect the vehicles of staff and visitors, following a series of reported thefts that have raised alarm among those frequenting the building.

Recognizing the need for swift and effective action, Minister Senesie, who has a background in law enforcement, collaborated with the Sierra Leone Police.

His discussions with the Inspector General of Police resulted in the decision to introduce the vehicle pass system, which was swiftly put into effect.

On Tuesday, October 22, the minister officially launched the system, personally overseeing its implementation. As part of the launch, he conducted training sessions for security personnel stationed at the building’s entrances and exits, ensuring they understood the operational details of the new system.

This hands-on approach demonstrates Dr. Senesie’s commitment to safeguarding the property of both employees and visitors.

The newly introduced system requires drivers to submit their identification cards at the security gates upon entering the Youyi Building.

In exchange, they are provided with a coded card that functions as both an entry and exit pass.

Upon leaving the compound, drivers must return the coded card to security in order to retrieve their ID, ensuring a controlled process that prevents unauthorized vehicle access.

“This new system is a preventive measure that we believe will drastically reduce the risks of vehicle theft at the Youyi Building,” stated Dr. Senesie during the launch.

“We are determined to create a safer environment for everyone, and we urge all users of the building to cooperate with the security procedures.”

The vehicle pass system is expected to significantly improve security at the Youyi Building and act as a strong deterrent to theft.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning encourages staff and visitors to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

This initiative marks a major step in ensuring the safety and security of those accessing one of Freetown’s busiest government complexes.
