Deputy Minister of Trade, Fatmata Kargbo, has confirmed that the “SANCAREDCIE” provision shop located on Kroo Town Road will be closed for violating the country’s Trade Act.

The shop was found to be selling expired products, which pose serious health risks to consumers.

The violations were uncovered during a routine spot check of various shops across Freetown. Minister Kargbo stated that expired products found on the shop’s shelves were unfit for human consumption, a serious breach of trade regulations.

As part of compliance with the Trade Act, all shop owners are required to create a designated section for items set to expire within the next three months. These goods should be sold at reduced prices to ensure they are removed from the market before expiration. The “SANCAREDCIE” shop failed to implement this practice.

Minister Kargbo emphasized that the government will take strict actions against businesses that endanger public health by selling expired goods. “SANCAREDCIE” will be shut down, and further penalties are expected to follow as investigations continue.
