The Ministry of Works and Public Assets is taking a firm stance against the illegal dumping of mud along roads as Sierra Leone approaches the rainy season.

On Monday, April 23rd, 2024, a high-level delegation led by Minister Dr. Denis Sandy and his deputy, Madam Queen Fofanah, conducted inspections of construction sites near major roads in Freetown. This initiative aims to address the recurring problem of mud washing onto roads during heavy rains, causing delays and safety hazards for drivers.

“This has been an annual issue causing unnecessary problems,” stated the Ministry, highlighting Dr. Sandy’s commitment to improving the sector.

The Ministry has also planned joint inspections with the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) to ensure proper use of the Right of Way (ROW).

Minister Sandy emphasized the detrimental effects of illegal mud dumping and expressed his determination to find solutions. He called upon the public to play a crucial role in keeping roads clean by properly disposing of waste and refraining from roadside dumping. “By working together, we can ensure the safety and sustainability of our roads,” he remarked.
