Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) has rejected as misleading and damaging a flyer claiming it is the “most non-compliant” institution under the Office of the Ombudsman.
The university described the assertion as inaccurate and harmful to its reputation.
MMTU stated that it has responded to all correspondence from the Office of the Ombudsman in a timely and appropriate manner.
The university explained that even when the former Ombudsman bypassed established channels and addressed the Vice-Chancellor and Principal directly, the Registrar ensured that all required responses were submitted, in line with the Universities Act 2021 and institutional protocol.
A senior university official called the flyer’s claim unfair, noting that launching such accusations against a government institution, especially at the start of a new tenure, does not reflect the neutrality and professionalism expected of the Ombudsman’s Office. MMTU described the flyer’s statement as “baseless” and said it undermines proper administrative procedures.
Attempts by MMTU and media outlets to obtain clarification from the Ombudsman’s Office, including phone calls, reportedly received no official response.
The controversy arises as the Office of the Ombudsman works to rebuild public trust following internal conflicts. Disputes between the former Ombudsman and the former Executive Secretary previously disrupted operations and compromised service delivery.
Both officials were relieved of their duties to restore credibility, establish new leadership, and promote professionalism.
