Sierra Leone’s leading mobile operators, Orange Sierra Leone and Africell have both increased their data tariff days after the court ruled in favour of them against Native Consortium and Research Centre (NCRC) this week.
Subscribers for orange and Africell networks will now have to purchase 2.5 Gb at NLe 35 instead of NLe 15 – an increment of over 100 percent. Qcell however has not increased their data tariff.

Consumers used to recharge 3 GB for NLE 15, and these increments have been a surprise for many Sierra Leoneans, amidst the economic hardship in the country.
Three months a ago, mobile operators together with the National telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) made more than a 150 percent increment in all data prices. However, the move was swiftly overturned following wide spread criticisms and concerns raised by citizens.
