Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labor and Social Security, Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray, represented Sierra Leone at the 6th Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers in Doha, Qatar.
The conference, themed “Local Experiences, Global Achievements and Success Stories in the Islamic World,” brought together officials from over 50 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
During the session, several key resolutions were agreed upon. These included: The signing of a statute to establish an OIC Labor Center to coordinate social development efforts. A call for all member states to focus on training and skills development for their workers, and encourage governments to create a better environment for small and medium-sized businesses to grow.

In his address, Minister Swaray thanked the Qatari government for hosting the event. He highlighted Sierra Leone’s dedication to creating decent work opportunities.
“My Ministry’s commitment to decent work is unwavering,” Minister Swaray stated. “Over the past years, we have implemented several initiatives to enhance employment opportunities and improve labour market conditions.”
The Minister also expressed President Bio’s support for a peaceful and rules-based international order, referencing the situation between Israel and Hamas.
The conference concluded with the official signing of the OIC statutes, marking a step forward in international cooperation on labour issues.
