The 2020 Safety and Security of Journalists in Sierra Leone Report has revealed that politicians and the Sierra Leone police are the most perpetrators of human rights violations against journalists in the country.
The Report which was done by Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) and the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) indicated that media houses and practitioners have faced at least one the following human rights violations: “Intimidation, Harassment, Humiliation, Arrest, Detention and Physical Attack” from politicians, the Sierra Leone police and other stakeholders in the community.
The Report pointed out that politicians are the most perpetrators of violations of human rights against journalists followed by the Sierra Leone Police.
The Report also mentioned that perpetrators of violations against journalists in addition to politicians and the Sierra Leone Police include Chiefs or Community Stakeholders, Military personnel, Civil servants and Members of the public.
