Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, has been recognised internationally as one of twelve influential figures in the People to Watch 2026 list by the Place Branding and Public Diplomacy Organisation.

Her inclusion highlights Sierra Leone’s growing visibility in global place branding discussions, driven by efforts to strengthen the country’s image and identity on the international stage.

Minister Tunis has led initiatives aimed at promoting Sierra Leone’s natural attractions while encouraging domestic tourism. According to the Ministry of Tourism, this approach is helping to build a sustainable tourism ecosystem that balances international appeal with national participation.

“This dual strategy is helping to build a sustainable tourism ecosystem that balances international appeal with national pride and participation,” the Ministry stated.

A key element of her approach has been the integration of culture and creativity into tourism promotion. By highlighting cultural heritage, gastronomy, and the creative industries, the Ministry says Sierra Leone is being positioned as an emerging cultural destination.

Her work also reflects a broader vision of tourism as not only an economic driver but a tool for storytelling, identity-building, and global engagement.

The TPBO annually recognises individuals whose work is advancing the field of place branding. The 2026 list features practitioners, policymakers, and researchers from across the world who are contributing to shaping how countries and cities present themselves globally.
