Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, has secured an agreement with the Chinese Embassy in Freetown. This partnership aims to train provincial mayors on green public works and social protection initiatives.
Sierra Leone is among the countries significantly impacted by climate change. In response, the World Bank, in collaboration with the Sierra Leonean government through NaCSA, is implementing a green public works project across the nation’s cities. This initiative includes tree planting, effective waste management, and proper sewage disposal.
Ambassador Ndomahina, a forward-thinking leader with firsthand experience from his tenure as an Ambassador to China, brings valuable insights into transforming settlements into green cities. His knowledge is further enriched by China’s successful social protection strategies, highlighted in President Xi Jinping’s book “Up and Out of Poverty,” which details how millions were lifted from poverty in Ningde.
The ambition to green Sierra Leone’s cities and promote a prosperous society has driven Commissioner Ndomahina and Chinese Ambassador Wang Qing to organize a training program in China for provincial mayors from Port Loko, Makeni, Bo, Bonthe Municipality, Kenema, and Koidu New Sembehun. This initiative is designed to enhance the human capital development of the mayors, ensuring the smooth implementation of the World Bank project.
Commissioner Ndomahina is a staunch advocate of President Bio’s human capital development agenda. This commitment is echoed in the words of the renowned Chinese philosopher Confucius: “Acquire new knowledge whilst thinking over the old, and you may become a teacher of others.” Through this initiative, Ndomahina seeks to empower local leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive sustainable development and social progress in Sierra Leone.
