Sierra Leone female rapper Aminata Bangura, stage named Nata has been nominated in All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2022 in two categories of Best African Act in Diaspora (Female) and Best African Rapper/Lyricist for her track ’94’.
Aminata “Nata” Bangura was born in The Bronx, New York however, she is a first-generation Sierra Leonean. In June of 2020, she released “Finally: The Movie.” This particular video contains three songs played back to back. Within these songs, is ‘Introduce Myself’ which gives you just about everything you need to know to understand who the “Rap’s Sweetheart” really is.
From a young age, Nata knew she had natural raw talent. Starting around the young age of seven, she was always involved in the creative arts. From singing in school choirs, performing on dance teams, and independently writing poetry, she was destined to be great. Nata was influenced by much older hip-hop artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Diggable Planets, Common, and more.
“Introduce Myself” was Nata’s introduction to who she is and what she is about. Within this song, she told the true story of who she was, what she was for, and how she was nothing like anyone you have seen she gave off a chill vibe with her rhythm but was confident of who she was in her lyrics.
In this upcoming All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2022, NATA has been nominated in the category of Best African Act in Diaspora (Female) and Best African Rapper/Lyricist for her track ’94’.
The International Executive Committee of the AFRIMA on Wednesday September 14, released the official list of nominees for the 2022 edition.
With a total of 9,067 entries submitted- the highest number ever recorded by the awards, since its inception – the AFRIMA jury selected a total of 382 nominations across 39 categories, to represent all five regions in Africa, as well as in the diaspora. The 12-member jury, composed of music experts, as well as the AUC, held a 10-day adjudication, in July, to sieve out the best of entries from the fray to make up the list.
Meanwhile, the 2022 All Africa Music Awards will now be held from the 8th to 11th December, 2022. A special announcement will be made on the host country and location for the awards, on Wednesday, 28th September, 2022.
The AFRIMA awards ceremony will feature a 4-day fiesta of music, glitz, and glamour aimed at celebrating Africa, recognising talents and expanding the economic frontiers of the culture and creative industry on the continent. The event is scheduled to commence with the welcome soiree, followed by the AFRIMA Music Village, the host city tour, Africa Music Business Summit, and the exclusive nominees’ party and concluded with the live awards ceremony broadcast to over 84 countries around the world.
