The African Union Commission has expressed its concerns regarding the recent travel restrictions imposed by the United States on nationals from several countries, including those in Africa
In a formal statement, the Commission acknowledged the U.S. government’s sovereign right to implement such measures for national security but urged a more balanced and evidence-based approach.
The Commission emphasized the importance of maintaining strong people-to-people connections, educational exchanges, and commercial relations between Africa and the United States.
It stated that those relationships have been carefully nurtured over decades and are vital for promoting mutual interests in peace, prosperity, and global cooperation.
In its appeal, the African Union Commission called on the U.S. Administration to adopt a consultative approach, encouraging constructive dialogue with the affected countries.
The Commission further highlighted the need for transparent communication and collaborative efforts to address any underlying issues that may have led to the decision.
“We remain concerned about the potential negative impact of such measures on diplomatic relations,” the statement read. “The Commission stands ready to support efforts that promote understanding, resolve concerns, and strengthen cooperation between Africa and the United States.”
The statement of the commission reflects the African Union’s commitment to fostering a positive and cooperative relationship with the U.S., urging for steps that enhance mutual understanding and address any grievances.
Good approach by the AU commission, well said
