Sierra Leonean singer and songwriter Natasha Beckley has announced that she will not be hosting or performing at any shows or public events this December.
The announcement came through a post on her official Facebook page on Sunday, in which the artist reflected on her years of performing and hosting some of the country’s biggest December shows.
“Over the years, I have had the pleasure of dominating and hosting some of the nation’s most celebrated national festivals,” Beckley wrote. “This year, however, I’ll be taking a step back.”
The post offered no reason for her sudden withdrawal, but her decision follows weeks of speculation surrounding her ongoing encounter with law enforcement over alleged involvement in drug-related activities.
Earlier this year, police linked the artist to a property in Freetown where substances suspected to be related to the production of “Kush” were reportedly discovered. Beckley has denied any wrongdoing, describing the allegations as unfounded and malicious.
She was briefly held for questioning and later released on bail pending further investigation. The case remains open, with authorities yet to confirm whether formal charges will be filed.
Beckley’s announcement has drawn mixed reactions from fans and fellow entertainers. While some have expressed disappointment over her absence from the upcoming festive calendar, others have praised her decision to step back and focus on clearing her name.
As one of the leading female voices in Sierra Leone’s music scene, Natasha Beckley’s temporary exit marks a pause in what has been a vibrant career defined by bold performances, social advocacy, politics and a growing international following.
