Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Sierra Leone will reverse recent adjustments to their data tariff plans, effective Friday, May 23, 2025.
This decision comes after the National Telecommunications Commission (NatCA) engaged with operators in response to widespread consumer concerns regarding data affordability and choice.
In a press release issued on Thursday, May 22, 2025, NatCA announced that it had “engaged the operators and asked them to reverse the changes, ensuring continued availability of diverse options.”
NatCA stated its commitment to working collaboratively with MNOs to “foster improved data plans that align with user demands and market standards.”
The regulatory body also reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing service quality and promoting a fair and competitive telecommunications sector in Sierra Leone.
Dear NatCA,
I would like to express my concern regarding the recent adjustments to data tariffs by Mobile Network Operators in Sierra Leone. The increase from 60 to 100 for a weekly subscription is significant and poses a considerable financial burden on many consumers, including myself.
Access to affordable internet is essential for staying connected, accessing information, and participating in today’s digital economy. This price hike makes it challenging for users to maintain their data needs and limits our choices as consumers.
I appreciate NatCA’s engagement with operators to address our concerns, but I urge you to continue advocating for more affordable options for all users. It is crucial that the pricing remains accessible so that everyone can benefit from internet services without facing undue financial strain.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Abu Mansaray.
Sir, last time I used my orange money to buy kolat bundle, believe these guys took the Le 60 without giving me mb (kolat bundle) I called them several times to return my money they do not .
Na reverse or fast forward 😒 60 to 100 per week
This is how the government promised to help reduce the price of cement almost 3 months ago but we are still facing the same Le175 for local cement.
Hope they ; mobile network operators with not bribe you like Koindu Holdings did to our ministers
Don’t be surprised to wake up the next morning and see that the increment has come to an effect, this country politicians are just selfish and greedy, they don’t have love for us nor the country.
We are waiting for the reverse Sir, these mobile operators wanted to add more burden on us just for get access to internet chai
Dollar don go up😄
There’s so much ridiculousness in this country, somebody will just wake up and hear some mad decision from an unexpected angles. All the networks operators in this country are not accurate in terms of service delivery to the people of Sierra Leone, the only thing they’ve ever cared of is their maximization of wealth and the utility at the expense of the people of Sierra Leone. Even the current service plan we’re working on is not effective, the internet is so porous, imagine a network provider going a whole day without proving effective internet service to its customers. I think is high time we got to let them aware their rubbish service. Thanks to NatCA for your intervention, but the people of Sierra Leone need more.
National tele communication should be blamed because they taxing the companies with high taxes
This is definitely a mere act of consumer exploitation and deceptive trade practice, we are paying for poor quality services and yet data prices are still skyrocketing as though we don’t know what to do with our monies. From a package of 3mbps for le70 to 2mbps for le60 and now 1mbps for le60, now you’re overcharging le100 for the same 1mbps. This is illegal.
Both opposition and sitting Politicians have failed the people of this country and private companies are exploiting the poor masses. People are paying huge for very poor network service. Decisions are taken without considering the level of poverty in Sierra Leone and the high rate of unemployment. ‘We dae live na Salone lek we nor get leader all man dae make decision as and how e feel’
God bless you sir for your integrity and concerns of the people. You truly love Sierra Leone and I hope you continue.
