The National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) has signed a Service Level Agreement with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to implement Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes targeting young returnees in Sierra Leone.
The partnership, established under the Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA) project, will provide skills training aimed at supporting sustainable reintegration and contributing to national development.
The programme will be implemented at the Obasanjo Skills Acquisition Centre for Youth Development, with technical and logistical support from IOM.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NAYCOM Commissioner Joseph Maada Lahai reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to youth empowerment, describing young people as one of the country’s most valuable national assets.
“The energy, ideas, and talents of our youth are among our most valuable national assets. As Commissioner, I will ensure that our policies reflect the needs and aspirations of young people across every region,” Lahai said.
He noted that the agreement aligns with NAYCOM’s mandate to implement key national frameworks, including the Status of the Youth Report and the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP).
He added that the introduction of demand-driven TVET courses is expected to enhance employability and support economic growth.
NAYCOM further reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with IOM and other development partners to ensure the effective implementation of the project and the long-term empowerment of young people across the country.
