The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), in collaboration with Concern Worldwide, has provided direct cash assistance to victims of a fire disaster that occurred along Signal Hill, Main Motor Road in Freetown on 18 June 2026.
According to the NDMA assessment, the fire affected 17 households comprising 77 people, destroying six oversized makeshift structures and damaging five business shops, leaving families and small traders in urgent need of support.
Following an Inter-Pillar Coordination Meeting, the NDMA engaged Concern Worldwide, which agreed to support the response with targeted cash assistance. Beneficiaries received Le3,000 for immediate food needs, Le3,500 per affected household for temporary shelter, and Le500 per child to support child welfare needs.

The exercise was coordinated by NDMA Principal Officer Ronald Turay, who reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to timely and coordinated disaster response, stressing the importance of collaboration under Section 50 of the NDMA Act of 2020 to ensure accountability and avoid duplication of assistance.
Councillor Satta Kamara of Ward 437, Constituency 128, commended the NDMA and Concern Worldwide for their swift response, noting that the support would help affected families begin rebuilding their lives.

Concern Worldwide Programme Director Sarah Cundy also praised the NDMA’s coordination role, describing it as key to ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches the right people at the right time, and reaffirmed continued partnership in supporting disaster-affected communities.
The intervention forms part of the NDMA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen coordinated humanitarian response and provide timely assistance to vulnerable communities across Sierra Leone.
