The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), the body responsible for regulating political parties in the country is now more powerful than before.
This new power is enacted by the Commission’s Act No. 25 of 2022.
In a news brief to the public, the Commission noted that the new Act grants them the power to settle inter-party disputes without invitation.
The Chairman of the Commission, Abdulai Masiyambay Bangurah said that the PPRC can now intervene into intra party disputes.
He added that the Commission now has the power to levy fines, warn or suspend any political party that fails to work with the directives of the PPRC. He added that they can now deregister non-compliant political parties.
He said the Commissional also assisted in the amendment of the Constitution of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), All People’s Congress (APC) and National Grand Coalition (NGC).
The PPRC is the body responsible for regulating the activities of political parties in Sierra Leone. One of their objects is to ensure that there is a level playing field and amicable interactions between political parties in the country.
