His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio on Friday administered the oath of office to several newly appointed officials at State House, following their unanimous approval by Parliament.
The appointees include the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Morie Lengor Esq.; the Chairman of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), Mr. Emmanuel K. Amara; North East Resident Minister, Mr. Ibrahim Jalloh; and South Region Resident Minister, Mr. John Abu.
The swearing-in ceremony, conducted under Section 57 of the 1991 Constitution, came after rigorous parliamentary vetting. The Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, John Sumaila, confirmed to the President that due diligence had been carried out prior to the approval process.
Dr. Emmanuel Gaima, Secretary to the President, administered the oath to Mr. Emmanuel K. Amara, the new PPRC Chairman, as mandated by Section 5(3) of the Political Parties Act of 2002. The legislation requires PPRC members, except the Chief Electoral Commissioner, to subscribe to the oath before assuming office.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Mr. Lengor expressed gratitude to President Bio and Parliament for their confidence, pledging to meet the expectations of the nation despite global challenges. “We understand the magnitude of the responsibilities entrusted to us. With God’s help, we will deliver on your vision and the aspirations of the people,” he said.
In his address, President Bio congratulated the officials and underscored the urgency of their roles in addressing the country’s developmental challenges. “Our people expect miracles, but while I cannot perform magic, I will do what is humanly possible to move this country forward,” the President remarked.
He emphasized the need for hard work and immediate action on security and other pressing issues, pledging his full support to the appointees. “The responsibility to transform Sierra Leone is ours. Let us work diligently to meet the expectations of our citizens,” President Bio concluded.
The newly sworn-in officials are expected to assume their duties immediately, focusing on national security, political oversight, and regional governance.
