The Acting Chairman of one of Sierra Leone’s opposition parties National Grand Coalition, Jesmed Suma has questioned their alliance with the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

NGC, which polled the third highest number of votes in the 2018 and 2023 elections, entered into “a progressive alliance” the ruling SLPP months into the June 2023 General Elections.

But the Acting Chairman has questioned the symbiosis of the alliance over disagreement with appointment.

In an interview with AYV, Suma said their alliance is shaky at present since their expectations on appointments they agreed upon have not been met.

Many sympathisers of NGC questioned the party’s resolve to enter into an alliance with the SLPP. This doubt is said to have stemmed from the fact that the party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella in the 2018 election vehemently condemned both the SLPP and APC of being the issue with Sierra Leone with regards to development.

Some Executive Members of NGC including Alan Luke, Dr. Dennis Bright and Nyamacoro Sillah resigned weeks before the alliance was forged. They said some leaders in the party are forging the alliance due to selfish and personal motives.

But Yumkella and some other NGC members said the agreement is for the interest of the nation.

Since the SLPP where announced winner of the June 2023 multitier election, only Yumkella is known to have been appointed by the Bio Administration.
