In a targeted night raid, police in Sierra Leone’s Southern region dismantled one of the area’s most notorious armed robbery networks by arresting a key suspect, reigniting hope for community safety.

On Friday, at around 12:30 am, police officers attached to the Bo-East Division conducted a coordinated raid at 24 Katta Street, located in the densely populated New York Section of Bo.

The operation, which had been carefully planned based on intelligence gathered over several weeks, led to the arrest of Chernor Jalloh, popularly known by his alias, “Preso.”

According to sources within the SLP, Jalloh has been under surveillance for an extended period due to his alleged involvement in multiple armed robbery incidents in and around Bo. Police describe him as a “notorious” figure in the local criminal underworld, long suspected of leading or participating in organized violent crimes targeting residents and businesses.

During the arrest, officers reportedly found Jalloh in possession of a shotgun, raising further concerns about his intentions and the potential threat he posed to public safety. The weapon has been seized as part of ongoing investigations.

Superintendent Mariatu Koroma, speaking on behalf of the Bo-East Division, confirmed the arrest and emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.

“This operation is part of our broader crackdown on violent criminals who have instilled fear in our neighbourhoods. The arrest of ‘Preso’ sends a clear message that no one is above the law, and we remain committed to restoring safety and order,” she stated.

Jalloh is currently being held in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are working to determine the extent of his involvement in other unsolved cases and whether he has accomplices still at large.

The SLP has reiterated its call for public vigilance and collaboration, urging residents to report suspicious activity and assist law enforcement in identifying criminal elements within their communities.

This arrest comes amid heightened efforts by the police to tackle violent crime nationwide. Bo, Sierra Leone’s second-largest city, has experienced a series of armed robbery incidents in recent months, prompting increased patrols, intelligence gathering, and community engagement by the police force.
