The Executive Director of the National Public Health Agency (NPHA), Brig. Prof. Foday Sahr, has confirmed that Sierra Leone has not recorded any Ebola case or suspected Ebola infection.
Speaking at the Government Weekly Press Conference held at the Miatta Civic Center in Freetown on Tuesday 26 May 2026, Prof. Sahr emphasized that the World Health Organization (WHO) currently classifies Sierra Leone as a low-risk country for Ebola.
Despite the low-risk classification, he said the government has already activated nationwide preparedness measures as part of efforts to strengthen prevention and response mechanisms.

According to Prof. Sahr, Sierra Leone is currently operating at Level Two preparedness, with surveillance and emergency response systems heightened across the country.
He disclosed that ambulance services have been positioned at the Lungi International Airport to isolate and transport any suspected cases to the designated isolation center at the Lungi Government Hospital.
Prof. Sahr further stated that screening and surveillance operations have been intensified at all official entry points into Sierra Leone.
He called on citizens to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious symptoms or illnesses through the emergency toll-free number, 117.
While urging the public not to panic, Prof. Sahr assured citizens that the health sector remains vigilant and fully prepared to respond to any potential outbreak.
He also encouraged the public to continue observing preventive health measures and avoid unnecessary body contact.
