The National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA), in partnership with the National Consumer Protection Commission (NCPC), has begun a nationwide inspection of filling stations to ensure compliance with petroleum regulations and protect consumers from unfair practices.
The joint spot-check exercise focuses on verifying the accuracy of fuel dispensing pumps, ensuring proper price displays, monitoring the conduct of pump attendants, and confirming that petroleum products are sold in line with approved standards.
According to the two institutions, the inspections are intended to promote transparency and accountability within the downstream petroleum sector while ensuring consumers receive the correct quantity and value for their money.
During the exercise, NPRA and NCPC teams are assessing pump calibration, service delivery standards, and general compliance with regulatory requirements. Filling stations found violating established regulations will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by regulatory authorities to strengthen consumer protection, improve market fairness, and maintain safer standards in Sierra Leone’s petroleum industry.
