The National Revenue Authority (NRA) Anti-Smuggling Unit has seized 57 kilograms of suspected illegal marijuana after a motorbike rider abandoned two large rice bags during a routine patrol along Kalagba Road in Dixion Chiefdom, Kambia District.

According to the Anti-Smuggling Unit, the incident occurred on November 29, 2025, when officers on patrol approached a rider transporting the bags. The rider allegedly fled the scene with the motorcycle, leaving the bags behind in a nearby field. No identification documents were recovered, and the suspect remains unknown.

Community stakeholders joined Anti-Smuggling officers to secure the scene. Upon inspection, authorities confirmed that the bags contained suspected marijuana tightly packaged for transport. The seized substance was later transferred to the Customs Office in Kambia for investigation and processing.

Officials say the incident reflects persistent smuggling activities along secondary routes in the district and highlights the need for stronger patrols and intelligence-gathering efforts.

The contraband was formally handed over to a representative of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) at the Kambia Police Division for further action.

Authorities have launched efforts to identify the fleeing rider as investigations continue.
