In a bold move to strengthen public awareness around taxation, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) on Tuesday unveiled a newly branded ‘Wakafine’ public bus as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance taxpayer education across Sierra Leone.

The launch event took place at the state-of-the-art bus terminal in Lumley, Freetown, attracting stakeholders from the transport sector, media, and members of the public. The colorful bus is decorated with eye-catching graphics and impactful slogans designed to educate citizens on their tax obligations and the critical role taxes play in national development.

According to the NRA, the ‘Wakafine’ bus will traverse the East and West Corridors of Freetown, engaging thousands of commuters daily with informative messages on tax compliance, benefits of paying taxes, and how public revenue supports infrastructure, education, and healthcare delivery.

“This initiative is a creative and practical way to take taxpayer education to the streets,” said an NRA official at the event. “We believe that informed citizens are more likely to comply with their tax responsibilities, and this bus will serve as a mobile classroom.”

The move is part of a broader public engagement strategy by the NRA to increase voluntary compliance, strengthen the revenue base, and foster a culture of transparency and accountability in public finance.

The branded Wakafine bus is expected to become a familiar sight on Freetown’s roads, turning every ride into an opportunity for civic education and national empowerment.
