The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has joined force with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education in initiating the Civic Day Series in Port Loko, aimed at strengthening the connection between government and local communities.

The Civic Day initiative aimd to establish a direct communication channel between government officials and citizens, promoting awareness of civic responsibilities, including the crucial aspect of tax obligations.

The Supervisor for Public Affairs and Tax Education (PATE) at the NRA, Saffiatu E. Charles, highlighted the importance of those engagements. “These interactions provide residents with an opportunity to pose important questions directly to the heads of various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), gaining first-hand insight into their operations and initiatives,” she stated.

She went forward to emphasize that the Civic Day program not only promotes transparency but also encourages active participation from the community in governance.

The Civic Day Series is set to expand to other districts, featuring a variety of government officials who will engage with students, local leaders, teachers, and business owners.

The ongoing series is said to serve as a reflection of the government’s commitment to inclusive civic education, with the NRA playing a crucial role in those outreach efforts.

By informing citizens about their rights and obligations, particularly regarding tax responsibilities, the NRA and the Ministry of Information and Civic Education aimed to empower communities to take an active role in the nation’s development.
