In a groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday January 10th, 2024, at the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, Madam Fiona Ngima was officially sworn in as the President of the National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS).

This historic event marks the first time a female has held the union’s highest office since its inception, signifying a major step forward in gender inclusivity and progressive student leadership. Senior Ministry officials, including the Permanent Secretary and Director of Education, Mr. E.J. Momoh Esq , joined students, dignitaries, and members of the press to witness this milestone moment.

In her inaugural speech, Ngima expressed deep gratitude to the student body for their trust and support, calling her election a victory for equality and inclusive leadership. She outlined her administration’s ambitious agenda, focusing on advancing student welfare, enhancing access to technology, improving learning environments, and building partnerships to create greater educational opportunities. She called on students across Sierra Leone to embrace unity and work collaboratively, emphasizing that collective action and solidarity are vital to strengthening NUSS and achieving its goals.

The Chief Technical Officer, principal administrative head of the Ministry, congratulated Ngima on her historic leadership role. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing student development and empowering youth leadership. Recognizing the significant advocacy role NUSS plays in representing student interests, he pledged ongoing support in fostering policies and environments conducive to learning and academic excellence. The event highlighted the Ministry’s strong partnership with student organizations in advancing educational reforms.
