The Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Employment and Labor Security has postponed its hearing into the alleged wrongful dismissal of Mr. Arjan Fofanah from the Office of the Ombudsman, rescheduling proceedings to May 30, 2025, to allow him more time to produce substantive evidence.

During Tuesday’s session, committee members raised concerns over Fofanah’s failure to provide legally admissible documentation to support his claims, despite previously submitting meeting summaries and minutes. The Chair stressed that such materials fall short of the evidentiary threshold required for parliamentary review.

“We are not here to accept minutes and summaries,” the Chair declared. “You were asked to bring documentary evidence proving your dismissal was unlawful. This committee operates under the Employment Act and national labor policies—your submissions must align with these standards.”

Fofanah, who filed his complaint with Parliament on April 30, 2025, contends that his termination from the Ombudsman’s Office was unjust. However, the committee emphasized that its findings will rely strictly on verifiable legal and factual records from both sides.

“The Ombudsman’s Office has already presented its case, citing relevant laws and procedures. Mr. Fofanah must now do the same,” the Chair added.

The adjourned hearing, set for May 30, will allow Fofanah and Ombudsman representatives to submit full documentation, followed by cross-examination. The Chair cautioned all parties to adhere to parliamentary decorum, warning against actions that could constitute contempt.

“This inquiry must remain transparent and evidence-driven,” the Chair concluded. “Our final report will be based solely on the facts and legal frameworks presented. This session is adjourned.”
