In an exclusive interview with Expo time’s newspaper, Honourable Mohammed Bangura of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), has said that on the removal of the suspended Auditor General and her deputy, he will take a position based on his principles and not on party principles.

Recently, the APC party through its Parliamentary caucus issued a press lease urging the president of the Republic to have a re-think and not to go ahead with the removal of the suspended Auditor General Lara Taylor-Pearce Pearce (Mrs) and her deputy Tamba Momoh.

Both Lara Taylor-Pearce and her deputy were suspend on November 11, 2021 for alleged professional misconduct and lack of professional performance an allegations they denied.

“I am going to take a stance based on my principle not based. On party,” honourable Bangura explained, noting that he will be critical as he will look at the issue holistically and from a national stance. As a Patriotic citizen, the law maker pointed out that his stance will be known when the issue is laid in the Well of Parliament for debate. He added that, “I am going to vote on that based on the values that I’ve already explained.”

When asked about the legality surrounding the removal, he said that he will not look at it from the legal point, but from the political point of view stressing that he will not vote based on party principles.

According to him, despite it will be a secret ballots, he will debate the issue before he can cast his vote and Members of Parliament will look into the issue before making decision.

Section 137 subsection (7) (b) Act. No 6 of the1991 constitution of Sierra Leone speaks about the removal the Auditor General which shall be approved by two- thirds majority in Parliament something the opposition believes will not work based on the composition of the sixth Parliament.
