In a bid to foster patriotism, unity, and empowerment among Sierra Leonean youth, the Patriotic Advocacy Network (PAN), in collaboration with The Open University, recently concluded a three-day training program titled “Decolonizing Education For Peace In Africa (DEPA-SALONE) on Film Making.”

Held at the CASE-SALONE office in Bo City from April 15 to 17, 2024, the workshop drew participation from over 50 enthusiastic young individuals from all districts across the Southern Region.

The training, spearheaded by Mr. Paul J. Koroma, Executive Director of PAN, aimed to equip young people with essential skills in filmmaking, photography, and videography.
Mr. Koroma underscored PAN-SL’s commitment to promoting education, culture, and the welfare of the less privileged in Sierra Leone.

He outlined PAN’s extensive reach across various regions, including Freetown, Kenema, Kailahun, Kono, Panguma, Bo, and Makeni, with plans underway to expand into the Pujehun district.
With headquarters situated in Freetown, PAN-SL operates in numerous schools, engaging with students to foster leadership, talent discovery, and national development.

Through interactive sessions led by Ibrahim Saha Kamara, popularly known as Concepts Baba, participants delved into various aspects of storytelling and the art of visual communication. Kamara emphasized the importance of leveraging digital tools such as smartphones and cameras to create compelling content for online platforms, potentially opening avenues for financial gain.

Reflecting on the significance of the training, Aminata Jaliba, a participant from Pujehun district, expressed her gratitude to PAN-SL for the invaluable opportunity. She highlighted the newfound knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop, particularly in photography and videography, pledging to utilize them for positive change in her community and beyond.
