The Parliament of Sierra Leone has approved a $148.2 million road construction project spanning 86 kilometers from Mabang Bridge to Moyamba Town and Gbagbatok, marking a significant step in the nation’s infrastructure development.

The three-year project, set to begin in March 2025 and conclude by 2028, will be executed by Citra Firm, a Burkinabe company. It includes the construction of hotels, entertainment facilities, and parks along the route, enhancing travel comfort.

Operated under a Build & Transfer model, the government will manage tolls and worker payments, with the potential for the road to become toll-free within two to three years if payments are completed.

The initiative promises economic growth through improved transportation, trade facilitation, and alternative vehicle routes.

It is also expected to generate substantial employment opportunities for Sierra Leoneans. Both APC and SLPP MPs have expressed strong support, highlighting the project’s transformative impact on the country’s infrastructure and local economies
