The parliament of Sierra Leone has announced a Five-man Committee tasked with investigating the alleged dismissal of over 100 employees.
This comes against a backdrop of media frenzy surrounding the Clerk of Parliament and accusations of unfair practices.
Following a meeting led by the Office of the Clerk of Parliament, a statement revealed the formation of the committee comprising key figures: the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Leader of the Opposition, and the Clerk of Parliament himself.
Their mandate is to thoroughly examine the redundancy issue and present recommendations to the Parliamentary Commission within two weeks.
The meeting also addressed the question of the Clerk’s wife’s presence on the parliamentary payroll. In a bid for transparency, the Clerk requested the establishment of a separate special committee to investigate this matter specifically and report their findings to the Commission.
