Parliament of Sierra Leone has today, Tuesday 7 March 2023 passed into law the Employment Act 2023.
The Act was enacted after it went through a third reading in Parliament today and was rigorously scrutinized and debated by lawmakerskers before they unanimously moved for its enactment.
The reading was preceded by the presentation of the report of the legislative committee on Labour on the Act. The report was presented by the Chairman of the Legislative Committee, Honorable Abdul S. Marray Conteh.
The Employment Act is one of six proposed Labour Laws and it is considered the Foundation Law as it sets the basis for employment in the country.
Before leaving the Well, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Alpha Osman Timbo, expressed gratitude to the House of Parliament for enacting the law.
“This Employment Act is a very important Law for this country and from the s cru, tiny it has gone through, I won’t say it will be the best in the African continent, but it will do a lot of good to Sierra Leone,” the minister stated.
