The House of Parliament has unanimously approved eight (8) Presidential Nominees to serve as Board Members for the National Revenue Authority (NRA) and the Consumer Protection Commission of Sierra Leone.

The approval took place during a parliamentary session in the Chamber of Parliament.

The following Presidential Nominees were vetted and approved:

Mr. Andrew Pessima – Member, National Consumer Protection Commission of Sierra Leone

Madam Memunatu Rogers – Member, National Revenue Authority Board

Dr. John Arouna Karimu – Member, National Revenue Authority Board

Following the approval, Acting Speaker Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh congratulated the nominees and emphasized the critical role they will play in advancing the President’s “Big Five” game changers.

He particularly highlighted the NRA’s key role in improving revenue generation to fulfill the President’s vision.

Hon. Conteh also mentioned that Members of Parliament expect the Consumer Protection Commission to protect consumers nationwide and urged them to deliver on this responsibility.

In his submission, Opposition Leader Hon. Abdul Kargbo stated that the Consumer Protection Commission is one of the most powerful institutions in safeguarding citizens’ well-being.

He noted that although one of the Commission’s duties is to make recommendations to the relevant ministry for action, these steps have not been effectively implemented.

Hon. Kargbo further congratulated the nominees and urged them to work diligently to protect the public, particularly in preventing issues such as food poisoning from expired products.

Finally, Acting Leader of Government Business, Hon. Bashiru Silikie, outlined the parliamentary duties of law-making, oversight, and representation.

He encouraged the nominees to act in the best interest of the nation, reminding them that their responsibility is to serve the country rather than develop their individual constituencies or districts.
