According to a report, the Sierra Leone Parliament have summoned the Inspector General of Police, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, the Minister of Defence, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to meet with the Public Interest Committee.
Their summoned came after the detention of over 300 Fullahs at the Sierra Leone Police Training School in Freetown.
The action of detaining Fullahs follows the deportation of some Sierra Leoneans from Guinea, which has heightened tensions across the country.
Several MPs expressed serious concerns, emphasizing that targeting a specific ethnic group could have far-reaching implications for national unity and social stability.
Lawmakers demanded clarity on who authorized the mass arrests and detentions.
“This is a critical public interest issue. It’s extremely serious, and I condemn it,” House Speaker Hon. Segepor Solomon Thomas.
The MPs urged the presiding Speaker to launch a thorough investigation into the situation, stressing the need for accountability and respect for human rights.
