The Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay has confirmed the Parliamentary Oversight Committee’s decision to hold talks with the Sierra Leone Police and the Chief Justice on the recent scourge of electricity theft and the vandalization of installations.
The minister made this statement during a recent visit by the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Energy, whilst discussing the perennial issues of electricity theft and th vandalization of installations.
The committee was led by its Chairman, Hon. Kekura Vandi, who mentioned that they are troubled by the recent rampant state of electricity theft and vandalization of installations, added that the reason for the visit is to inform the minister of steps taken to engage the Sierra Leone Police and the Chief Justice on the recent scourge.
The minister in his remarks green-lighted the committee’s decision to hold talks with the Sierra Leone Police and the Chief Justice, adding that he was equally disturbed by the rampant spate of the scourge.
While condemning the recent scourge, the Minister recounted cases of resistance faced by communities to his efforts to provide electricity for them on grounds of political or economic reasons, noting that he would never be frustrated in his efforts to deliver on the instructions of the President.
He concluded that his mandate to provide electricity for all irrespective of region or tribe would be executed fairly or equitable
