Green Professionals Network USA, in partnership with Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Social Welfare, donated 105 bags of rice (25 kg each) on March 27 to individuals recovering from substance abuse.

The beneficiaries, recognized as “Ambassadors of Positive Change,” received the donation at the Ministry’s Conference Hall as part of efforts to support rehabilitation, reintegration, and community healing.

The event brought together ministry officials, stakeholders, media representatives, and members of Green Professionals Network USA. Organizers said the rice was distributed fairly to each beneficiary household through coordinated efforts between the Ministry and the international network.

In his welcome remarks, Ansumana Konneh highlighted progress at the rehabilitation centre, noting that 600 individuals have completed recovery programmes and 200 residents are scheduled for discharge by the end of April 2026.

Delivering the keynote address, Melrose Karminty said the initiative followed a directive from President Julius Maada Bio to support rehabilitation efforts. She noted that beneficiaries are preparing to reintegrate into society and contribute to national development.

SLPP Deputy Chairman Robert K. Kargbo praised the collaborative effort, describing substance abuse as a growing challenge and emphasizing that addressing it is a collective responsibility.

Representing Green Professionals Network USA, Lawrence Sannoh said the organization aligned its work with the government’s human capital development agenda. The donation aims to complement ongoing rehabilitation programmes, and he pledged continued collaboration.

The ceremony concluded with a call for sustained partnerships across government, civil society, and international networks, encouraging beneficiaries to serve as advocates for positive change within their communities.
