Acting on intelligence reports, a joint security team has raided an illegal pharmaceutical warehouse situated at 8 Faryama Street, Gbindi Park, Kabala, uncovering a large cache of controlled and counterfeit drugs.
According to officials, the operation led to the seizure of 23 cartons of Tapentadol 225mg capsules, a potent controlled analgesic, alongside 314 cartons of counterfeit and unregistered pharmaceutical products.
Two suspects believed to be operating the facility were arrested at the scene and later transferred to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) in Freetown for further investigation.
Authorities confirmed that all counterfeit and unregistered drugs have been transported to the District Medical Stores at the Kabala Government Hospital for proper documentation. The controlled substances were handed over to TOCU headquarters as evidence.
The Pharmacy Board has since shut down the illegal storage facility.
Officials further disclosed that the seized counterfeit products will be destroyed in accordance with established protocols.
The Pharmacy Board is urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious pharmaceutical activities to the nearest Pharmacy Board office or security agency.
