Tension remains extremely high in Taiama Town, the headquarters of Kori Chiefdom in Moyamba District, following violent riots that erupted on Thursday, 6th February 2026.

As of Friday, 7th February 2026, police have taken control of major parts of the town in an intensified security operation aimed at restoring calm and preventing further unrest. The situation reportedly worsened when security forces arrived at the popular Brewah Compound, where a group of youths allegedly confronted the police, triggering renewed tension.

Several key roads in the town have been blocked, while shops, markets, and other business centers remain shut down. Normal commercial and social activities have come to a complete halt as fear and uncertainty grip residents.

According to Francis Pessima, a local journalist with Kori Radio FM 103.3, police personnel deployed from both the Bo Division and Moyamba District are jointly managing the operation on the ground.

Authorities have confirmed that at least 11 people have been arrested so far in connection with the disturbances. However, the police are yet to issue a comprehensive official statement regarding injuries or the full extent of damages, as security operations are still ongoing.

Residents have been strongly urged to remain calm, avoid confrontation, and cooperate fully with law enforcement officers as efforts continue to restore peace and stability in Taiama.
More updates are expected as the situation continues to unfold.
