Joint security forces in Kambia District have intercepted a vehicle driven by a Guinean national and seized 190 boxes of suspected Tramadol tablets during a routine security operation at the Mile 18 Police Checkpoint.
According to police sources, the interception took place on Saturday, 17 January 2026, as part of intensified searches and monitoring of vehicles, motorbikes, passengers and goods moving through key border crossing points across the district. Officers on duty stopped a vehicle bearing registration number AZ-6281 for a routine security check.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a yellow rice bag containing 190 boxes of suspected Tramadol tablets, which had been concealed beneath the vehicle in what police described as an attempt to evade security screening.
Police identified the driver as Mousa Bailo, a holder of a Guinean driver’s licence (No. 21030422405070111). Officers said the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot as he approached the checkpoint, and he remains at large.
The impounded vehicle and the seized drugs have since been handed over to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) Headquarters in Hastings for further investigation. Police say efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the suspect, while investigations continue into the origin and intended destination of the suspected drugs.
The Sierra Leone Police said the operation forms part of ongoing measures to combat cross-border crime, drug trafficking and other transnational offences, particularly along major border routes in Kambia District.
